Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI comes knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.
What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides-especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head-and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.
Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all their gifts to survive.
This is a YA book and it is about profiling and the FBI. I didn’t think this book could get any better. Well, it did! It has a perfect mix of everything I could ever ask for. Plot twists, a love triangle, and all the strange things that happen when five “naturals” live under the same roof. You have Cassie, the new profiler. She isn’t any rookie when it comes to analyzing people. She is new to the program but she already fits in just fine. Then you have the girl who can detect any lies. Lia can also tell lies very well. She is a sneaky one! You have Sloane who is great with math and also facts. She can tell you how long it takes to drain a body of blood or how long a certain bullet can travel. Wow, that just got gruesome. Let me just tell you that if you don’t like that this book isn’t for you. Next is Michael. He is the emotions guy. He can tell how you are feeling without even looking at you. I would not want to be around him. Last but not least is Dean. He is also a profiler and Cassie’s partner. He is mysterious and quiet. He like to be by himself and away from people. I am trying not to give too much away here.
Like I said up above there is a love triangle. I usually don’t like love triangles but it was different this time. You will just have to read it to see what I mean. My favorite pages are ten to thirteen. I won’t say anymore about it other than that is the first glimpse you get of Michael and Cassie. I almost peeked at the end to see how it turns out. Like I said this book is full of plot twists. I am glad though, because it wouldn’t be the same without them. I couldn’t read fast enough! I just wanted to see what happens. Once you read it you won’t blame me. I loved all the small interactions between all the teenagers. I loved the game of truth or dare. That got a little juicy. I want to be apart of that little group. The minute I read the first ten or so pages I was hooked. I didn’t want it to be over. I didn’t know there were more books in the series until I looked it up. It felt like Christmas! I am going to read all her other books because they sound amazing. She is now my favorite author. I don’t know if I had a favorite before, but I do now. I didn’t just rate this book five Reese’s peanut butter cups. I rated it five Reese’s big cup peanut butter lovers cup. This book is worth more than five stars. LOVED IT!!!!!!
In between chapters you get little bits of what the serial killer is thinking. It didn’t make sense at first but when you catch on it makes complete sense. This book is disturbing yet amazing!
